Western Harbour Tunnel

The Western Harbour Tunnel is one of two major undersea tunnels in the Islands. It runs under the sea between Zones 1 and 4.

Overview[]

The Western Harbour Tunnel is a major road that connects western Zone 4, Central and Dove Island, Zone 1. This route is one of the busiest highways in the Islands as it connects both business districts. Therefore, it is known to be congested and often extremely busy. Despite its heavy use, the tunnel has only two lanes in each direction, with each direction carried in one tube respectively. Part of Strategic Route 1, the tunnel directly connects to Moon Island Bypass on the Moon Island side and Strategic Route 2 on the Dove Island side.

All 1xx (except route R148) routes use this tunnel for both directions and 2xx circular routes use this tunnel for one direction.

The tunnel can be accessed by going straight past Northern Interchange and continuing directly to Western Harbour Tunnel Interchange on the Moon Island end where it connects to Norton Road, Central Road and Moon Island Bypass at a complex intersection. On Dove Island, it connects to the Cross Island Highway (Strategic Route 2) for access to Long Island, Hospital Island and Containers Island, and surface roads in Dove Island.
