Moon Island Bypass is a major road located in Zone 4. It starts from Southern Central and ends at the Western Harbour Tunnel, passing through Eastmallow and the Northern Interchange.
History[]
Moon Island Bypass was an important road in Moon Island before the island was developed and the hills in Central were removed.
On 1 June 2024, several road signs were added or changed, and road barriers are installed along the road.
Network[]
Moon Island Bypass has two lanes for each direction throughout, with a small portion of the road in the north near Western Harbour Tunnel Interchange being dual-carriageway. The section between Central Highway near Northern Interchange and Western Harbour Tunnel is located in Strategic Route 1.
The road between Northern and Eastmallow has a lower speed limit of 50km/h, while for the road between Eastmallow and Southern Central as well as the dual-carriageway at Northern has a speed limit of 80km/h.
The road is located along the northern and eastern coasts of Moon Island and is the only route connecting Eastmallow to Central and other locations in the Sunshine Islands. Additionally, it allows traffic between the Leafy - Central Tunnel and the Western Harbour Tunnel without going through Central Road. While Central Highway serves a similar function and has fewer traffic lights and a higher speed limit, this road can be an alternative for traffic between Zone 1 and Zone 7 during rush hours.

Bus Services via Moon Island Bypass[]
Since all buses via Northern Interchange, Eastmallow and North Island must use this road. Nearly all Zone 4 routes use this road, except routes 475P and 476S.
Special arrangements during marathon[]
The westbound lanes of Moon Island Bypass from the section near Northern Interchange to Western Harbour Tunnel (including the tunnel that connects the Central Road intersection to Northern Interchange) will be blocked. Vehicles traveling from Eastmallow must exit to Central Bridge, Central Road, Brown Street or Red Wall Road. In the closed sections, only vehicles coming from Red Wall Road can exit to North Island via the bridge connecting to Norton.
All bus services serving the northbound stop of Northern Interchange and the westbound stop of Western Harbour Tunnel Interchange will be diverted. Zone 4 local services will use Central Bridge to access North Island, while routes 240, 242, 248, 471, 473 (Circ.) and N246 will replace the original inter-zone bus services.
